On the occasion of Ai Weiwei’s exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, a Virtual Reality film was created to offer an immersive journey through the artist’s work and the spaces of the exhibition.

Moving from the exterior of Palazzo Strozzi through its installations, sculptures and objects, the film explores Ai Weiwei’s dialogue between tradition and modernity and the political themes that have shaped his practice. Detailed close-ups and graphic elements guide the viewer through the exhibition, accompanied by the artist’s own voice reflecting on his work.

Inspired by the theatre production of Bitch Boxer, starring Carolina Pezzini and based on the play by Charlotte Josephine, this project translates the atmosphere and physical intensity of the original 40-minute performance into an immersive 360° experience.

Shot inside the Rossi di Santa Croce and Pugilistica Isolotto boxing gyms, the film follows Pezzini through a series of training sequences, accompanied by the protagonist’s voice as she recalls moments from her life.

Using 360° filmmaking and dedicated VR post-production, A Knockout 360 places the viewer at the centre of the story, exploring the space between theatre, cinema and virtual reality.
