About
Biography
Edoardo Zucchetti is an Italian director and writer born in Florence in 1986. His work moves between film, theatre, and opera, developed across Italy, Europe, and the United States.
He studied Literature and Philosophy and began his path in theatre at the age of twenty, initially working as an actor before moving into directing. He trained through a workshop-based approach between Florence, Rome, and London, working alongside directors including Franco Zeffirelli, Jonathan Miller, and Terry Gilliam.
Since 2007, he has developed a parallel practice in film, focusing on documentary as a form of portraiture. His work often begins from proximity—following artists, performers, and communities over time—building narratives from within rather than from observation at a distance.
His first feature documentary, Patti in Florence, developed over ten years, premiered at the Festival dei Popoli in 2020. This was followed by Pagliacci di Zeffirelli, un passo nel futuro, presented at the Rome Film Festival in 2023.

His film work continues through a series of portraits across music and contemporary art, including projects with conductor Daniele Rustioni, artist JR, and tenor Michael Spyres. Alongside completed works, he is currently developing long-term projects such as Crepuscolo, following a class of students over five years.
In parallel, Zucchetti directs theatre and opera productions across festivals and institutions including Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Festival della Valle d’Itria, New Generation Festival, Intercity Festival, and Estate Fiesolana. His work spans traditional stages as well as public and site-specific environments.
Alongside directing, he develops interdisciplinary projects that move between performance, film, and public space. These include collaborations with international artists and institutions, as well as large-scale public events in Florence.
Edoardo Zucchetti lives and works between Florence, Rome, and Puglia.
Edoardo Zucchetti’s work is centered on people and process.
Whether in theatre, opera, or film, each project begins from observation and collaboration—often developing over time through rehearsal, research, and direct engagement.
Across different mediums, his practice remains consistent: to construct narratives that emerge from lived experience, and to create spaces where stories can take form—on stage, on screen, or in public space.
